Hi, I’m your new Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students, Dr. Alfred E. Day. As your Dean of Students, it’s my job to advocate for your needs on campus. I’m excited to get to know you.
A little more about me
I’ve worked in higher education for more than 30 years. In my time, I’ve supported everything from student success to crisis response, behavioral intervention, and new initiatives designed to build inclusive communities.
At UC Berkeley, I’ve held several roles. You may have interacted with me as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Support and Belonging, or the Director of the Center for Support and Intervention. I’ve also worked for other UC’s including UC Merced, UC Santa Barbara, and UCLA.
The student experience is very familiar to me. I completed my own undergraduate education at California State Fresno, and have since received an M.P.A from California State University, Northridge and my Doctor of Education from UC Davis, researching student affairs leadership and organizational culture.
When I’m not thinking about higher education, I’m likely thinking about parasocial relationships–how people form meaningful connections with media figures and fictional characters. In fact, you may even see me at Comic-Con International – leading educational programming at the Comics Conference for Educators and LIbrarians and GeekEd.
